How to Manage SPAM in cPanel

To setup your control panel to manage SPAM email, do the following:

1.  Log into your control panel at:

http://www.yourdomain.com.au/cpanel

Replace www.yourdomain.com.au with the domain name of your hosting account.

If you are unsure of your cPanel login details please refer the the email “Hosting Account Information – Please Keep Safe – Please do not reply”. This email was originally sent out to your default billing email address when you first purchased your web hosting.

One of the greatest attractions to starting an online business is that the costs are minimal. Keeping your goals realistic is also essential. It’s wise to completely ignore the outlandish promises made by companies and individuals selling get-rich-quick schemes and instead start out with a plausible plan with goals that you can actually reach if you work hard enough. Consider the following steps for building a money-making website.

1. Be Inspired

Consider your skills and your level of knowledge in certain areas. You’ll want to think of a niche which you know plenty about as well as something which interests you. Since you’re going to need to provide quality content and something of value to your visitors, you need to be knowledgeable in your field. Of secondary importance is coming up with an idea that is ideal for making money.

2. Register a Domain Name and Hosting Package

The only costs involved in starting an online business are registering a domain name (web address) and getting a web hosting package. The costs only run into a few dollars per month and the costs will only ever increase if you have an enormous number of visitors and you need to start paying for more bandwidth.

Choose your domain name carefully. It’s good practice for search engine optimization (SEO) to include a relevant keyword or phrase in your web address. You should also keep it short and memorable. It’s also a good idea to register multiple domain names which all direct to your main website. Ideally, you should register your domain name for a longer time, such as five years. The search engines favour long-term registrations.

You’ll also want to decide whether to use a local domain name ending in the country code for your location or a .com address. As a general rule, you should only use a localised domain name such as “.com.au” if the content of your site is primarily relevant to an audience in that country. For the most part, all other sites are better off using a .com address. There are plenty of other options, however.

In this post, we will identify further promotion tactics with blog writing, forum contributions and adding a mailing list.

Blog writing

Writing blogs has become extremely popular over the years. They are created based on any topic and can contain as much or as little text as chosen. The ease with which this information can be created and uploaded to the web is an attractive feature. Not only does it act as ‘fresh content’ (see ‘Ways to Promote Your Website – Part 1 of 3′) but can also bring in the readers week after week. By creating interesting, well written content, your audience stays engaged.

Blogs are great for sharing new ideas, information and opinions while acting as a catalyst for discussion and debate.

By promoting external contributions via comments and sharing technologies including Facebook and Twitter, you help to spread your information and therefore your business, product and service. Not only this but through readers’ back and forth comments, you are continuing to increase the amount of fresh content that is introduced to your site – extra content that you don’t even need to write!

Forum contributions

Forums are a type of communication hub where people create and reply to posts on various topics. You will be amazed at the information you pick up in forums by contributing to discussions. Through regular posting, you not only appear as somewhat of a guru in your field but are in a great position to both advertise your business and advocate your services. You are able to address people’s questions, provide relative information and gather useful knowledge on what consumers want.

By acting in a professional manner and building a network of connections, you will find yourself selling without appearing to sell.

Mailing lists

A great way to reach a lot of people quickly, mailing lists, also known as newsletters, ezines and e-newsletters are a marketing mechanism that proves very efficient. You can create and send one email newsletter that reaches thousands of recipients. The information that you wish your clients or prospects to view can be conveniently sent straight to their inbox.

Through these messages, you can include information about your products, services, competitions, special offers and more. You can also include details and links to your website – a simple online point of entry to your business. Ultimately, this form of advertising/marketing keeps your business fresh in the customers’ minds for future business.

When using these strategies, consider what may and may not work for your site. Take into consideration the time you can allocate to establishing and maintaining them and the potential benefit they may bring.

The more strategies you implement, the better chance you have of being noticed. However, there is an investment cost that comes with each.

Web History Lesson – 10 Unusual Technology Milestones

Over time, there have been many moments in the history of the Web that have been notable milestones. Some of these milestones may happen to be a little on the more unusual side, but still they show just how far the World Wide Web has come. Here are a few of those moments:

1. Free Technology – In 1993, a big decision was made to make the web programming code accessible and free. The effect this had was rapid growth for the Internet since more people were able to work and build it up, sort of like open source software. Without this monumental decision at this time, the Internet might not be the information highway that it is today.

2. First Webcam – Through the need to make their own office life a bit easier, Cambridge University initiated the first webcam in 1993. What did they broadcast? A coffee pot! Instead of walking up numerous stairs to be disappointed finding the pot empty, they simply had to check the webcam.

3. Banner Ads – A website wouldn’t be a website without them – banner ads. The first of these website adornments hit the Web in 1994 and set the tone for Web marketing as we know it now. Today, banner ads can be for anything from electronics to conferences, but the very first banner ads were simply for AT&T, a technology company, and Zima, an alcoholic drink.

4. Big Domain Sales – Acquiring domain names became big business in the 90s leading to some rather large sales for this virtual property. In 1997, business.com passed in a transaction for $150,000 fully displaying just how important Internet realty had become. Of course, this sale has nothing on the multi-million dollar ones in more recent times, such as insure.com that just sold for $16 million in 2009.

5. Weblog Named – “Weblog” is a word that entered the world as said by Jorn Barger, a Web commentator, in 1997. It was later shortened to simply “blog” by Peter Merholz in a joking procedure of breaking the word up into “we” and “blog” on his website. It’s funny to think that someone’s simple play on words can become one of the biggest additions to our current technological vocabulary.

6. First Google Office – Everyone has to start somewhere, right? It just so happens that once Google decided that their Stanford University efforts were worth it, they opened up their very first office in 1998… in a garage. Despite less than professional early days, Google shows us that there’s nowhere a good idea, and an even better algorithm, can’t get you.

7. First Podcast – The first podcast occurred in 2001 after the proper RSS enclosures were invented in order to allow this form of audioblogging to work. As a demonstration, the first podcast was actually a Grateful Dead song embedded into the Scripting News blog.

8. The Pope Emails – Also occurring in 2001 was the time the first email was sent by a pope. Even Pope John Paul II found a need to use electronic email, a medium which has led to the current pope having his very own public email address.

9. Popular Searches – Do the words “wardrobe malfunction” ring a bell? You might recall an incident back in 2004 involving both Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake during the Super Bowl. After her little clothing mishap, Janet Jackson’s chest became the most searched for image in the history of Web searches.

10. Knighthood – Tim Berners Lee, the man said to have invented the Web, was granted knighthood in 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II. I’m guessing the day you gain this fancy title is the day you know you’ve done something pretty huge.

Five Reasons Why Blogs Benefit Businesses

The idea of possessing a blog, originally thought of as merely an online diary, has become more and more important in the business world for use as a web marketing tool. That’s right – Business owners are taking it to the streets (well… to the virtual streets) and finding that blog use has benefited them. Because of this fact, Digital Pacific has put together a list of five reasons why blogs should be incorporated into your business plan.

1. Search engines love new information. A huge reason that business owners are taking the time to blog about it all – business, products, news, etc. – is simply because search engines tend to crawl your site the more often it is updated with new content. Blogs create the perfect platform for such updates because not only are you producing more content, but you are also creating useful information for your customers through the articles or blog posts you write.

2. Blogging creates a personable voice. What would be classified as one of the key factors in running businesses today? Customer Service. Even though a blog does not really create customer service, it does help to create that which goes along with it: a personable voice. By creating a personable voice, customers may start to see a business as more than just another company and one that they can actually relate to. Blogs usually provide a business the means to talk in a more relaxed manner, further allowing customers to see that “real” people work there.

3. Blogging lets businesses stay current. The business world, let alone individual businesses, is constantly changing. Blogs provide a method to inform customers about business news, product highlights, reviews, trends and more in an easy and accessible way. Not only does it allow for information updates that keep the business owners from having to modify – or pay to have someone modify – website content, but it also allows businesses to elaborate on topics in a more user-friendly manner. For example, a company might provide an interview with a customer using one of its products on the blog.

4. Blogging opens a forum between businesses and customers.
Through blog posts and comments, customers have the ability to relay their concerns or opinions in a manner that is public. Many businesses may shudder at the thought of customer opinions, or complaints even, being showcased to the entire web world, but if other people are able to see that a business reacts in a timely and correct manner to such issues, a business can actually create more loyal customers for the future.

5. Blogging creates a web presence and builds a following. Nowadays, if your business does not possess a web presence, you will start to be overlooked. Businesses use the web to set themselves apart from other businesses, and blogs are now helping to take them one step further. By creating a blog, a business can really let customers know that it is an expert on a subject and create a more loyal following because of it.
